Freddie Roach

Biography

Freddie Roach was an American soul-jazz organist from the Bronx, New York. After playing in *Ike Quebec*'s band, he signed to #Blue Note Records# and led five albums beginning with 'Down to Earth' (1962), his playing favouring dynamics and tonal colour over bluesy attack. Later records for #Prestige Records# turned funkier before his recording career ended in 1967. He became a cult figure for acid jazz listeners.
