Album Notes & Community Reviews

The Norwegian extreme metal pioneers essentially solidify the agonizingly slow 'funeral doom' subgenre with this incredibly bleak, glacially paced debut. 'Tristesse' completely relies on utterly crushing, heavily distorted dirges accompanied by deep, guttural vocals and sparse, deeply depressive acoustic passages. The album remains a terrifyingly bleak, absolutely foundational text for the most sluggish, sorrowful fringes of heavy metal.
