Album Notes & Community Reviews
Genesis Owusu鈥檚 debut 'Smiling With No Teeth' is a stylistically ambitious concept album that merges hip-hop with strains of punk, funk, and R&B. The production, led by Andrew Klippel and Dave Hammer, creates a volatile backdrop for Owusu's narrative, which explores themes of racism and depression through the recurring metaphor of two 'black dogs'. Owusu鈥檚 versatile vocal performance and visceral songwriting garnered widespread critical acclaim, earning the Australian Music Prize and solidifying the album as a landmark release.
