Beyond the Blue Horizon

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On his debut for Creed Taylor's CTI label, the virtuoso guitarist delivered a remarkably crisp, highly rhythmic masterclass in soul-jazz improvisation. Backed by a stellar trio featuring Jack DeJohnette and Ron Carter, the session perfectly bridges the gap between classic hard-bop swinging and the sleeker, groove-oriented sounds of the ensuing fusion era. It stands as a pinnacle of his early, strictly instrumental output.
