Presenting the Gerry Mulligan Sextet

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Expanding his famous pianoless quartet into a slightly larger ensemble, the immensely lyrical baritone saxophonist retains the remarkably airy, highly contrapuntal texture that defined his West Coast aesthetic. The inclusion of Zoot Sims and Bob Brookmeyer adds immense harmonic density to the intricately woven horn arrangements, demanding deep, intuitive group interplay. The profoundly swinging, intellectually rigorous session is a flawless testament to his unparalleled genius as a modern jazz orchestrator.
