Album Notes & Community Reviews
Conducted with immense, highly dramatic pacing by Herbert von Karajan at La Scala in Milan, this legendary studio production is widely revered as an absolute pinnacle of the recorded Italian repertoire. The performance is definitively anchored by the towering, emotionally devastating soprano of Maria Callas in the tragic title role, flawlessly supported by tenor Nicolai Gedda. The emotionally intense, beautifully captured release remains an essential touchstone of 20th-century classical vocal performance.
