Album Notes & Community Reviews
Inspired by the same transformative trip to Lagos that influenced his contemporary Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil infuses his Brazilian acoustic sound with prominent j霉j煤 and Afrobeat rhythms. The record serves as a rhythmic exploration of Black diasporic identity, seamlessly connecting the musical cultures of the Bahian favelas with modern West African pop. It represents a crucial, socially conscious pillar of 1970s Brazilian popular music.
