Operating in absolute obscurity, Robert Pollard's Dayton-based collective begins to truly crystalize their uniquely fragmented, lo-fi aesthetic on their third self-released album. Blending British Invasion melodies with surreal post-punk tape experiments, the record is a dizzying patchwork of brilliant pop hooks buried beneath layers of basement hiss. It points directly toward the legendary indie rock milestones they would achieve in the following decade.
