Album Notes & Community Reviews

The first installment of a legendary marathon recording date captures the pianist and his quartet operating with extraordinary, seemingly effortless synergy. Featuring guitarist Jim Hall, the ensemble perfectly balances the cool, intellectual interplay of the West Coast scene with a ferocious, blues-rooted hard bop drive. It is universally celebrated as a masterpiece of spontaneous, highly communicative group improvisation.
