Album Notes & Community Reviews
Driven by the virtuosic, blues-soaked playing of pianist Hampton Hawes, 'For Real!' pairs his trio with the formidable tenor saxophone of Harold Land. The 1958 session, released three years later, captures a muscular, swinging approach that effectively bridges West Coast restraint with the driving energy of East Coast hard bop.
