Shangrenade

Album Notes & Community Reviews

The innovative former Canned Heat guitarist ventured into highly advanced, fully instrumental jazz-rock fusion on this dazzling 1973 solo release. Pioneering his revolutionary, two-handed fretboard tapping technique long before it became a heavy metal staple, Mandel's guitar tone is slippery, heavily sustained, and intensely psychedelic. Supported by a deeply grooving rhythm section featuring bassist Paul Jackson, the album remains a cult classic of technical, funk-laced guitar experimentation.
