Album Notes & Community Reviews
Documenting a staggering 1989 performance at Catalina's in Hollywood, this album captures the revered West Coast pianist leading an extraordinary quartet that includes Cecil McBee and Andrew Cyrille. Tapscott's expansive, rolling modal compositions provide a perfect framework for deep, spiritual free-bop improvisation. The recording is widely considered one of the most vital jazz documents of the late 20th century.
