'Zen Arcade' is a sprawling double concept album that narrates a young man's flight from a broken home into an equally unforgiving world, only to awaken and find it was all a dream. [1, 7, 9] While maintaining its roots in hardcore aggression, the songwriting partnership of Bob Mould and Grant Hart expands the band's sonic palette to include acoustic folk, psychedelia, and piano interludes, captured with a raw immediacy from recording sessions where most tracks were completed in a single take.
