Album Notes & Community Reviews

Seeking to distance himself entirely from the heavy metal bombast of Deep Purple, vocalist Ian Gillan steered his eponymous band toward dense, complex jazz-rock. 'Clear Air Turbulence' is characterized by intricate brass arrangements, syncopated fusion rhythms, and extensive instrumental passages. The bold stylistic detour confused many of his traditional fans but stands today as an incredibly tight, adventurous progressive rock effort.
