McLean's Scene

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Compiled from multiple sessions, this release captures the alto saxophonist's piercing, slightly sharp tone navigating classic hard bop blowing frameworks. Featuring robust contributions from trumpet players Bill Hardman and Webster Young, the quintet arrangements maintain a relentless, blues-drenched swing. The record documents a transitional phase before the leader ventured into more avant-garde, structurally expansive territories.
