Presenting... Jackie McLean

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Serving as his extraordinarily promising initial date as a bandleader, the Charlie Parker-influenced alto saxophonist anchors a highly capable, fiercely swinging quintet featuring Donald Byrd. The tracks are steeped in the blues, showcasing his distinctively sharp, slightly acidic tone navigating a highly confident, modern bebop vocabulary. The intensely focused, deeply swinging session immediately heralded the arrival of a massive, profoundly influential voice within the New York jazz scene.
