Album Notes & Community Reviews

After a series of avant-garde explorations, Jackie McLean returned to a more grounded, though still advanced, hard bop setting with this album. The title track is an explosive, high-energy piece with a soulful, gospel-tinged feel. It showcases McLean's signature 'sharp' tone and his ability to infuse a performance with raw, blues-based emotion while still navigating sophisticated post-bop harmonies. It's a powerful and accessible statement from a master.
