Album Notes & Community Reviews

With production assistance from John Mellencamp, the Texas songwriter delivered a masterful sophomore collection of sharply observed, working-class character studies. 'Candyland' eschews gloss in favor of sturdy, driving roots-rock instrumentation that perfectly frames his dry, cynical, and deeply literary vocal delivery. The record solidified his reputation as one of the most incisive narrative lyricists in the burgeoning Americana movement.
