Album Notes & Community Reviews
On 'For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women)', Japanese Breakfast moves from the extroverted joy of its predecessor into a darker, gothic-inspired contemplation of desire and artistic inspiration. [1, 7] Recorded at Sound City with producer Blake Mills, the album marks a shift to a professional studio setting, resulting in a mature, sonically intricate work that layers a diverse instrumental palette of gamelan, strings, and woodwinds with Zauner鈥檚 literary-focused songwriting.
