Roots to Branches
by Jethro Tull
Marking a distinct return to the highly complex, sprawling progressive structures of their 1970s zenith, Ian Anderson heavily incorporated Eastern musical scales and traditional Indian instrumentation into the band's classic sound. The heavily acoustic, jazz-inflected flute performances are supported by highly intricate, remarkably tight ensemble playing. The ambitious, world-music-flavored release was widely praised as the veteran group's most creatively vibrant effort in over a decade.
