This debut album marked the highly anticipated return of frontman Blake Schwarzenbach following the dissolution of his influential band Jawbreaker. Produced by J. Robbins, 'Orange Rhyming Dictionary' represented a significant stylistic evolution, moving away from pure punk towards a more nuanced and dynamic indie rock sound that incorporated complex arrangements and Schwarzenbach's signature literate lyricism. The album, recorded in Memphis, became a cornerstone of the late-90s emo and indie scene and was the highest-selling release for the Jade Tree label.
