Album Notes & Community Reviews

Demonstrating a radical departure from the aggressive, blues-drenched bop dominating the East Coast, the visionary reedist focuses entirely on the lower, chalumeau register of the clarinet. The resulting music is intensely quiet, highly contrapuntal, and completely devoid of a traditional swinging drumbeat, utilizing folk-like melodies and advanced Third Stream harmonic concepts. The profoundly meditative, chamber-like approach established a new, deeply cerebral extreme for the West Coast cool aesthetic.
