Biography
American clarinetist, saxophonist and composer from Dallas, Texas. Jimmy Giuffre wrote 'Four Brothers' for *Woody Herman*, then led the Jimmy Giuffre 3 in a quiet, contrapuntal chamber jazz heard on 'Western Suite' (1958). His 1961 trio with *Paul Bley* and *Steve Swallow* anticipated free improvisation, and its records are now recognised as landmarks of the music's development.
