Album Notes & Community Reviews

Produced by Ray Charles, this exquisite collection of ballads was almost immediately withdrawn from circulation due to a bitter contract dispute with a previous label. The singer's highly unusual, androgynous contralto phrasing wrings profound sorrow and romantic yearning from standard material. Despite its legendary scarcity, 'Falling in Love Is Wonderful' is widely considered a pinnacle achievement in jazz vocal interpretation.
