Jimmy Scott

Biography

American jazz singer from Cleveland whose boyish soprano, caused by the hormonal condition Kallmann syndrome, made his slow, aching ballads unmistakable. A hit record with *Lionel Hampton* in 1950 led to decades of obscurity and day jobs before 'All the Way' (1992) launched a celebrated comeback in his late sixties, with Grammy nominations and world tours. He died in Las Vegas in 2014.
