Album Notes & Community Reviews
This album captures a sensational performance from the 1965 Monterey Jazz Festival that made alto saxophonist John Handy a star. The sprawling, high-energy tracks are masterpieces of modal jazz, blending Spanish and folk-inspired themes with incredibly passionate and exploratory improvisations. The unique front line of alto sax, electric violin, and guitar created a sound unlike any other in jazz at the time, and the fiery, extended solos captured on this record are simply breathtaking.
