Locus Solus
by John Zorn
Operating within the downtown New York avant-garde scene, Zorn assembled multiple variations of power trios for this jagged, chaotic project. The recording is a frantic collage of saxophone squalls, turntable scratching (provided by Christian Marclay), and violent percussion, heavily utilizing Zorn's 'game piece' improvisational strategies. It is a wildly abrasive, unpredictable milestone in contemporary free improvisation.
