Album Notes & Community Reviews
During his brief but highly productive hiatus from the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the legendary alto saxophonist recorded this swinging, blues-drenched collection. 'Collates' features Johnny Hodges' impossibly smooth, romantic tone soaring over a tight small group, reaffirming his status as one of the most expressive instrumental voices in jazz history.
