Memories of Ellington

Album Notes & Community Reviews

During a brief hiatus from the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the legendary alto saxophonist recorded this brilliant tribute to his longtime employer's repertoire. 'Memories of Ellington' highlights Johnny Hodges' impossibly smooth, romantic tone and mastery of sensual glissandos over deeply swinging arrangements. The session proves his status as one of the most distinctive and emotionally resonant instrumentalists of the swing era.
