Album Notes & Community Reviews

The legendary alto saxophonist steps away from the full Duke Ellington orchestra to lead a select small group through a sublime, blues-drenched session. His unmistakable, weeping tone and luxurious phrasing float effortlessly over the relaxed swing arrangements, featuring stellar contributions from Roy Eldridge and Ben Webster. The album is an exquisite masterclass in understated elegance and timeless jazz expression.
