Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street

by Jon Hassell

Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street cover art

Drawing its evocative title from a poem by the 13th-century Sufi mystic Rumi, this late-career masterpiece by the 'Fourth World' pioneer is heavily centered on deeply atmospheric, nocturnal jazz. The composer's signature, heavily harmonized trumpet breathes over a bed of live electronic sampling, subterranean bass, and shuffling acoustic percussion. The release is widely celebrated as one of the most sensual and enveloping works of modern ambient jazz.
