Album Notes & Community Reviews
Jorge Ben's debut album 'Samba Esquema Novo' introduced his revolutionary "new style samba," a vibrant fusion of bossa nova's sophistication with the rhythmic drive of samba, pop, and jazz. Anchored by Ben's uniquely percussive and syncopated guitar playing and his smooth, colloquial vocals, the songs are elevated by big-band arrangements of horns, strings, and a dynamic rhythm section led by drummer Dom Um Rom茫o. The album established Ben as a pioneering force in Brazilian music and launched his career with enduring international hits like "Mas que Nada" and "Chove Chuva."
