The Thief Next to Jesus

Album Notes & Community Reviews

On his ninth and final album, 'The Thief Next to Jesus', Ka fully produced the record, creating his signature drumless and atmospheric soundscapes from gospel, soul, and blues samples. [1, 4, 5, 8] The album is a dense and poetic exploration of the complex and often hypocritical relationship between Christianity and the Black American experience, examining themes of faith, survival, and systemic injustice. [2, 3, 6] Released less than two months before his death, the project serves as a powerfully complex and poignant final artistic statement from the Brooklyn emcee. [2, 10]
