Biography
Brownsville, Brooklyn rapper and producer Ka (1972-2024), born Kaseem Ryan, made hushed, literary, largely drumless albums on his own #Iron Works# label while working as an FDNY firefighter and captain. 'Grief Pedigree' (2012), 'Honor Killed the Samurai' (2016) and 'Descendants of Cain' (2020) are landmarks of independent hip-hop, dense with chess and samurai metaphors. He died in New York City in October 2024.
