Choirs of the Eye
by Kayo Dot
Kayo Dot's debut album, 'Choirs of the Eye', presents long, through-composed pieces that fuse avant-garde metal with elements of jazz, post-rock, and modern classical composition. Emerging from the dissolution of the band maudlin of the Well, the album is defined by its complex, multi-layered arrangements that integrate traditional rock instrumentation with woodwinds, brass, and strings. This unorthodox and cinematic compositional style, which alternates between serene, melodic passages and sections of intense, dissonant heaviness, earned the album a release on John Zorn's Tzadik 'Composer Series'.
