Album Notes & Community Reviews
A powerful and influential album from a leading voice of his generation. 'Songbook,' the first of Garrett's albums to feature all original compositions, was a major artistic statement. The music is intense, rhythmically driving, and deeply soulful, showcasing Garrett's signature style, which is both modern and firmly rooted in the tradition. The album is a high-water mark of 90s post-bop and a showcase for the incredible, powerhouse rhythm section of Kenny Kirkland and Jeff 'Tain' Watts.
