Album Notes & Community Reviews

August Darnell successfully mutated the dying embers of New York disco with retro Latin big band and Caribbean calypso styles to birth the theatrical vision of Kid Creole & The Coconuts. 'Off the Coast of Me' is a highly infectious, rhythmically diverse debut that completely subverted contemporary dance music expectations. The album's sharp wit and eccentric world-beat fusion made it an instant underground classic.
