Standing completely apart from the working-class narratives of their Britpop contemporaries, the band embraced a deep revival of 1960s Indian-influenced psychedelia. Frontman Crispian Mills incorporated Sanskrit chants, traditional Indian instrumentation, and mystical lyrical themes directly into highly accessible pop-rock structures. It became the fastest-selling debut album in Britain since Elastica's premiere, highlighting a massive public appetite for modern raga-rock.
