Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded during his early tenure as a leader, 'Groove Street' highlights Larry Young before he fully pushed the Hammond B-3 organ into the modal avant-garde. The session relies on deeply pocketed, blues-drenched vamps, supported by a straightforward rhythm section and robust horn playing. It stands as a vital document of the thriving Newark soul jazz scene from which Young emerged.
