Album Notes & Community Reviews

Collaborating with visionary arranger Bill Russo, the highly intellectual alto saxophonist is placed against a tense, occasionally dissonant string backdrop. The orchestrations eschew typical lush sentimentality in favor of rigorous, modern classical counterpoint that challenges the soloist's melodic invention. The album is a brilliant, highly acclaimed integration of cool jazz improvisation and Third Stream compositional techniques.
