Album Notes & Community Reviews
This monumental recording marks the first true document of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) evolving into the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Trumpeter Lester Bowie leads an incredibly adventurous ensemble鈥攊ncluding Roscoe Mitchell and Malachi Favors鈥攖hrough sprawling, radically open-ended group improvisations that prioritize silence, space, and unconventional timbres. It established a revolutionary new language for the American jazz avant-garde.
