The President

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Showcasing the legendary tenor saxophonist during his later, more reflective period, 'The President' highlights his distinctively languid, behind-the-beat phrasing. Though his tone had darkened and become slightly more fragile, Lester Young's unparalleled melodic invention and profound emotional depth remain entirely evident. Supported by a sympathetic rhythm section, the sessions are a moving portrait of a foundational jazz architect.
