Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released to capitalize on their rapidly ascending mainstream success, this collection compiles the band's earliest studio sessions recorded just prior to their self-titled debut. Driven heavily by Mark King's virtuosic bass slapping and Mike Lindup's dazzling keyboard work, the tracks are entirely instrumental and fiercely improvisational. It provides an unpolished, exhilarating snapshot of the group as a pure, uncompromising jazz-funk quartet.
