Releasing their sophomore effort a full five years after their pioneering debut, the Sheffield duo delivered a significantly darker, more mechanically dense iteration of IDM. The production largely abandons the melodic, bleep-heavy optimism of the rave era in favor of aggressive, grinding synthesizers and tense, complex rhythm programming. The highly influential recording beautifully bridged the gap between classic techno and experimental mid-90s electronics.
