Music for Union Station

'Music for Union Station' is a site-specific chamber work recorded live in Chicago's Union Station, featuring a ten-piece acoustic ensemble interacting with the building's natural reverberation and ambient sounds. The single, extended composition builds on tranquil, minimalist drone textures, blending the live instrumentation of cellos, brass, and woodwinds with the inherent sonic environment of the bustling public space. Kohl's composition grew out of field recordings made in the station, creating a piece that is in direct conversation with its architectural and acoustic setting.
