As the first album recorded in the band's own Echo Canyon studio, 'A Thousand Leaves' uses this freedom to create lengthy, improvisational tracks defined by the quiet and intricate guitar interplay between Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo. The resulting sound is a more relaxed, post-rock exploration that moves away from heavy feedback, with lyrical themes ranging from aging and parenthood to critiques of gender stereotypes, all loosely inspired by the sprawling nature of Walt Whitman's poetry.
