Album Notes & Community Reviews

On 'Fantasy Empire', Lightning Bolt trades its characteristic lo-fi, live-to-tape recording style for a high-fidelity studio production that adds immense clarity and power to its sound. This approach allows Brian Gibson's intricate, heavy-metal-indebted bass riffs and Brian Chippendale's frantic, complex drumming to be heard with unprecedented detail and separation. The result is a work that captures the overwhelming intensity of the noise-rock duo's live performances while revealing the articulate, deliberate nature of their compositions.
