Album Notes & Community Reviews

Shifting focus entirely to his capabilities as a romantic crooner, 'Satchmo Serenades' finds the legendary trumpeter interpreting popular standards with a lush, heavily orchestrated backing. The arrangements by Sy Oliver emphasize the gravelly, rhythmic warmth of his voice, largely sidelining his instrumental pyrotechnics. The record cemented his transition from a pioneering jazz soloist into a beloved, mainstream pop entertainer.
