Biography
Nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, Louis Armstrong was a towering figure in jazz and American popular music. As a trumpeter and cornetist, he shifted the focus of jazz from collective improvisation to the featured soloist, influencing virtually every musician who came after him. His instantly recognizable, gravelly voice made him an equally influential singer, popularizing scat singing and demonstrating a masterful ability to interpret a lyric. From his early, revolutionary recordings with his Hot Five and Hot Seven groups for #Okeh Records# to his later global hits like 'What a Wonderful World', Armstrong's career spanned five decades, cementing his status as a beloved entertainer and cultural ambassador.
