Album Notes & Community Reviews

Operating firmly outside the boundaries of conventional Japanese pop, Maki Asakawa collaborated with free jazz pioneer Yosuke Yamashita for the astonishingly bleak 'One'. The album pairs her low, spoken-word poetry and smoky vocals with profoundly dissonant, avant-garde piano improvisations. It is a harrowing, claustrophobic masterpiece of existential free jazz and experimental vocal music.
